August 24, 1924 - May 23, 2017

Aki Ushiyama, 92, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2017. She was born August 24, 1924 in Barr Lake, Colorado but lived the majority of her life in Rocky Ford, Colorado. Aki is survived by five children: Gerry (Mary) Ushiyama, Diana (Gregory) Sakamoto, Ronnie Ushiyama, Bob Ushiyama, and Frank (Linda Heller) Ushiyama, four grandchildren, she is preceded in death by her husband George M. Ushiyama, and five siblings. Aki worked raising her family and farming with George. She owned a restaurant, "Oriental Inn" from 1967-1973. After closing the restaurant she worked for The Elks Lodge for many years. She always had a big smile and hugs for everyone! Aki was an active member of the First Christian Church. She prepared a chow mein dinner annually to send many of the children to camp. Aki's yard was her pride and joy. It was a Japanese flower garden with a tori (red gate) and bridge. She had been awarded with "the best yard", several times. Aki moved to Denver in 2005 to be close to family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, humor, generosity and a strong work ethic that resonates in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be greatly missed. Memorial Service at Newcomer Funeral Home, 190 Potomac St., Aurora, Co. June 10, 2:00 pm. Graveside service will be at Rocky Ford Cemetery on June 12 at 11:00 AM.
