Alden was born in Rocky Ford, CO on February 17, 1925, the son of the late Homer Atchison and Mary Ertyle (Bartholew) Knapp.
He graduated from Rocky Ford High School in 1943. He graduated from CSU with a Bachelor's Degree in Vocational Agriculture, a Master's in Vocational Education and a Doctorate in Administration of Vocational Education.
He was the husband of Eleanor Jean (Holder) Knapp. They were married on September 8, 1946 in Rocky Ford, CO. This past weekend the family celebrated Alden & Eleanor's 65th wedding anniversary.
Alden served in the U.S. Navy in WW II.
He farmed west of Rocky Ford for over twenty years. He also was a Voc. Ag. teacher in Louisville, CO and instrumental in starting the Agri Business Program at OJC. He was employed by the Oregon State Council for Vocational Education for 12 years.
Alden was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church, Rocky Ford, CO. He was very active serving on everything from administrative boards to singing in the choir.
He was a past President of the Lions Club, was on the Rocky Ford Board of Education for 12 years as well as past President of Colorado Association of School Boards and the Rocky Ford Onion Growers Coop.
Alden is survived by his wife, Eleanor of the home; Son John husband of Laurie Knapp of Rocky Ford, CO; Son Gerald husband of Kim Knapp of Rocky Ford, CO; Son Brian husband of Gail Knapp of Rocky Ford, CO; Daughter Nancy wife of Stan Schweissing of Kennewick, WA; Sister Jeannette Kitch of Newton, KS; Sister Joyce Sherwood of Martinez, CA. He is also survived by 15 Grandchildren: Nick Knapp, Chris Knapp, Melanie Knapp, Taylor Knapp, Lacey Albrecht, Erin Schafer, Kyle Schweissing, Alisha Knapp, Hilary Knapp, Nathan Knapp, Jill Schweissing, Austen Knapp, Andrew Dickinson, Kristen Dickinson and Brandon Dickinson. 4 Great-Grandchildren: Niquole Knapp, Martee Knapp, Felicity Knapp and Tiffanie Knapp.
He was preceded in death by a sister: Grace Wendel.
Memorial Services will be at the First United Methodist Church, Rocky Ford, CO, at 10:30 AM on Thursday, June 30th, with Rev. Olga Hard and Pastor John Dell officiating. There will be no viewing as cremation has been effected. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church 301 W. Washington Rocky Ford, CO 81067.
