Alma Jean
Schofield
January 22, 1961 – June 6, 2010
Alma Jean Schofield
January 22, 1961 - June 6, 2010
Mrs. Alma Jean Schofield, 49, of Wichita, KS passed away Sunday, June 6th, 2010 while in the company of family and friends at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center at Via Christi St. Francis Center. Alma was born in Mammoth Springs, AR on January 22, 1961, the daughter of Elizabeth Evelyn (Honeycutt) and Lawrence Elbert Rutledge. She graduated from Couch High School in Couch, MO and attended the School of the Ozarks. She was the wife of Darrell Schofield. They were married on June 12, 1981 in Branson, MO. He survives of the home. She was a member of Hope Community Church in Wichita. Alma was born and raised in the Ozark mountains. Those hills are still filled with generations of her family members. She grew up surrounded by a large, loving family. In addition to her immediate family, there were several aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, first, second and third cousins. Although she eventually lost her endearing southern accent she held fast to the southern hospitality, hard work ethic, sense of civic duty, and christian values that were instilled in her. Alma always placed family and friends first. She was a devoted mother and wife. Fiercely protective and loyal to her friends and loved ones. She was blunt, honest, and bold, but tempered with enough love and affection to not offend. Alma enjoyed people of all ages but especially delighted in young children. She assisted with Girl Scouts when her daughters were younger, and volunteered in the nursery at church. Alma had an adventuresome spirit. She enjoyed camping , boating and social activities in general. Alma gathered life long friends everywhere she went. She held several jobs, but found her true calling in sales. She worked at Dillard's Department Store at the cosmetic counter and delighted in giving makeovers. She later went to work selling supplies to hair salons for State Beauty Supply and then Peel's Salon Services. Both of these companies were very supportive of her during her illness and made several accommodations to allow her to work for as long as she wanted. She loved calling on her friends at the salons. Alma spent her final hours being cared for and comforted by the dedicated and loving staff at Harry Hynes Hospice. Her room was filled most often with the laughter of many friends and family members as our memories where shared. Alma's fight with cancer would last over nine years, she was determined to stay with us as long as possible and to live life to its fullest. Heartfelt thanks to her doctors, nurses, lab techs and numerous others that assisted in her treatments and care at the Cancer Center of Kansas, and at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston. She is survived by her husband Darrell of the home; Daughter Molly Schofield of Wichita, KS; Daughter Abby Schofield of Wichita, KS; Father Lawrence Elbert Rutledge of Monette, AR; Sister Teletha Wieland of Williford, AR; Sister Mary Owens of Tulsa, OK; Sister Rosetta wife of Ricky Helt of Flippin, AR; Sister Debbie wife of Ricky Smithee of Monette, AR; Sister Margaret Grable of Flippin, AR; Brother James Rutledge of Couch, MO; Brother Jerry Rutledge of Hidden Valley, AR; Sister-in-law Annette wife of David Graham of Wichita, KS; Brother-in-law Kenneth husband of Kris Schofield of Derby, KS; Mother-in-law Netta Schofield of Wichita, KS; Father-in-law Gene husband of Phylles Schofield of Ozark, MO; Step-brother -in-law Tyron Ingram of Ozark, MO.
