Barbara Anna Baker

Mrs. Barbara Anna Baker, 87, of Rocky Ford died on Friday, October 23rd, 2009 peacefully at Pioneer Health Care Center. Barbara was born in Cheraw, CO on June 26, 1922, the daughter of the late Jacob and Myrtle (Miller) Hamm. She attended Grand Valley School, graduated from Swink High School and then attended McPherson College for one year. She was the widow of Clarence "Sonny" Leslie Baker, Jr.. They were married on September 11, 1955 in rural Otero County. He preceded her in death on December 25, 2008. Her working career included Stauffers Food Store in bookkeeping and federal jobs Pueblo Army Depot in Payroll and other installations. After retirement, she ran the Greyhound Bus Station in Rocky Ford for several years. She was a member of Community Presbyterian Church in Rocky Ford, CO 81067. Sonny and Barbara lived in Manzanola a short time then lived in Rocky Ford the rest of their lives. They enjoyed their motor home and spent many winters in Needles, CA and in AZ where Barbara liked to play Keno in the casinos. Her favorite times though were family gatherings including some or all of her 16 nieces and nephews. She had a kind heart and will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by: Brother Leland Hamm of Rocky Ford, CO; Nephew Emery husband of Betty Murray of Las Animas, CO; Nephew Rodney husband of Becky Hamm of Pueblo, CO; Sister-in-law Reba Hamm of Pueblo, CO; Sister-in-law Hazel Hamm of Bethesda, MD; Sister-in-law Virginia Thornton of Sterling, CO; Brother-in-law Elvin Frantz of Buena Vista, CO; Numerous other Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers: Elmer, Wesley, Charles and Franklin Hamm; sisters: Sarah Murray, Pauline Jensen, Rachel Frantz & Dorothy Janes. Funeral Services will be at Ford-Ustick Funeral Home, Rocky Ford, CO, at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 28th, with Rev. Steve Culver officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday 9 AM until service time at the Ford-Ustick Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery Rocky Ford, CO.
