Barbara Josie (Garcia) Montoya, 78, of Rocky Ford, CO, passed away at 3:12 AM, Sunday, December 25th, peacefully, at Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center, La Junta. Barbara was born in Rocky Ford, CO on February 7, 1938, a daughter of the late Dolores L. (Lucero) and Frank D. Garcia. She was the widow of Jose Milton Montoya they were married on June 6, 1957 in Rocky Ford, CO. She was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Rocky Ford, CO. Barbara served the church as a lector, Eucharistic minister and volunteered at numerous church functions. She graduated from Rocky Ford High School in 1956. She worked at Sexton's, Gobin's Bookkeeping and Rocky Ford School District. Barbara was a member of Rocky Ford Recreation Department (exercise class). She is survived by; Son Greg, husband of Ernestina Montoya, of Colorado Springs. CO; Daughter Nancy, wife of John Hindes, of Pasadena, MD; Sister Kathryn Saiz, of Boulder, CO; Special Family members Darren, husband of Shannon Garcia, of Rocky Ford, CO; and Carmel husband of Maria Montoya, of Rocky Ford, CO. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Ryan (Trinity) Montoya; Holli (Ector) Montoya, Emanuel, Toni & Jacob Montoya, Danny & Andrew Hindes; 6 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces & nephews. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Milton; 2 sons: Don & Chuck Montoya; sisters: Vidalia Cordova, Susie Espinoza, Timmie Garcia; brothers: Edward Garcia, P.R. Garcia, Simon Garcia; numerous cousins, nieces & nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 30th at St. Peters Catholic Church in Rocky Ford, CO with Fr. Tony Wojcinski officiating. A Vigil Service will be at 6:00 PM on Thursday, December 29th at St. Peters Catholic Church in Rocky Ford, CO . Interment will be in the Valley View Cemetery Rocky Ford, CO. in lieu of flowers, a Memorial Fund can be sent to St. Peters Catholic Church;1209 Swink, Rocky Ford, CO 81067.
