Berza (Bertha) Torres, 74, of Rocky Ford, CO, passed away Friday, January 19th, while in the company of family, at her residence. .
Berza was born in La Jara, CO on April 20, 1943, a daughter of the late Seferina (Montoya) and Moises Casias.
She was the widow of Archie Ervine Torres, they were married on July 27, 1963 in Rocky Ford, CO, he preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 2012..
She was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Rocky Ford, CO.
She worked as a Cook at Jefferson Middle School Rocky Ford, CO.,She also worked for many years at the Pioneer Hospital in Rocky Ford, CO.
Bertha enjoyed doing many things. Among her favorites were going to Cripple Creek to try her luck on the latest slots. In her spare time at home, Bertha enjoyed being around family and friends. She lived by her motto "my door is always open" and enjoyed visitors and the comfort they brought. Her hobbies included baking, especially around the holidays when she would make her famous peanut brittle to share with the family. She also enjoyed working with yarn and dominating the world of Candy Crush on her tablet.
She is survived by;
Daughter Nancy Torres, of Rocky Ford, CO;
Daughter Betty, (Bret) Daniels, of Peyton, CO;
Son Archie, (Kimberly) Torres, Jr., of Cripple Creek, CO;
Granddaughter Brittany Encinias, of Lakewood, CO;
Grandson Gabriel Torres, of Lamar, CO;
Granddaughter/Friend Kinzie Ensor, of Rocky Ford, CO.
She is also survived by her sisters-in-law: Florence Lucero, Marvine Vigil, Eliria Corral.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 brothers: Solomon, Valentine and Joe Casias; sister: Enida Teal; grandson: Bradley James Daniels; sister-in-law: Elva Sandoval.
