November 19, 1943 - September 10, 2009

Mrs. Betty Kay McCanless, 65, of Rocky Ford went to be with our Lord Thursday, September 10th, 2009 while in the company of family members at her residence. Betty was born in Rocky Ford, CO on November 19, 1943, the daughter of the late William Homer and Mary Mildred (Raven) McCanless of Rocky Ford She was a Homemaker She is survived by: Daughter Kelly Marie wife of Philip Martinez of Olney Springs, Co.; Brother William husband of Wanda McCanless of Rocky Ford, Co.; Sister Mildred Josephine widow of Herb Kreie of Courtland, KS. She is also survived by 3 Grand Children and 2 Great Grand Children, along with numerous Nieces and Nephews, and Special Friends. Preceded in death by her parents and a Sister Mary Harriet Punky Becker, and a Nephew Dennis Joe Becker. Kay had polio in 1951 at the age of 8. She spent a year in an iron lung and the rest of her life in a wheel chair. Kay's misfortune did not slow her down, she traveled the world from South Padre Island to New York City. Kay was an accomplished artist, she loved animals especially her dogs. Kay was an active member of AV. Steps, she helped in getting the handicap ramps on the sidewalks of Rocky Ford. A Memorial Service will be held at Library Park at 10:00 a.m. on Friday September 18th, 2009 with Pastor John Dell officiating. There will be no viewing as cremation has been effected.
