Charlie Chavez, 60, passed away on July 28, 2017 in his home with his family by his side. Charlie was born on September 21, 1956. He was the third of the Chavez triplet boys born to Frances (Kika) Cordova. He graduated from Rocky Ford High School in 1975 and went on to serve in the Army for 2 years. He married Diana Gonzales on November 2, 1979 in La Junta, CO. Charlie enjoyed making pottery, playing the guitar, and spending time with his grandchildren and family. He was a die-hard Broncos and Rockies fan. Charlie taught pottery at the Rocky Ford High School and worked with Max Cordova to make the soup bowls for Swink's Empty Bowl Fundraiser. He previously worked as a cook at Evergreen Gardens Assisted Living where he catered to each resident. Charlie was the life of the party, loved to tell stories and jokes, and had a passion for cooking especially his famous pizzas. Charlie is survived by his loving wife Diana Chavez and Sons Michael Chavez, Charlie (Angelique) Chavez Jr., and nephew Daniel Sanchez Jr. Grandchildren Allie Aragon, Julianna, Yzabella, Gabby, and Lucas Chavez. Sisters Louise (Joe) Alfonso, Clorinda (James) Martinez, and Pearl (Harvey Rivera) Chavez. Brothers Jimmy (Faye) Cordova, Joe (Cindy) Cordova, Benji (Alice) Lucero, Daniel (Lorraine) Sanchez, Arnie (Gerri) Chavez, Bobby (Adeline) Chavez, and Anthony (Mary Jo Aragon) Montanez, John (Kim) Chavez and Edward (Leslie) Chavez; Father in law Ben Gonzales. Sister in law Rachel (Conrad) Aragon. Brothers in law Steve (Melinda) Gonzales, David Gonzales, and Johnny (Andrea) Gonzales and numerous nieces and nephews. Charlie was preceded in death by his mother Kika, mother in law Tillie Gonzales, and step mother in law Elva Tenorio. Charlie was loved by all and will be dearly missed. A Rosary Service will be held 9:30 AM on Friday, August 4th at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish in La Junta, CO. A Memorial Mass will follow at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 4th at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish in La Junta, CO with Fr. Henry Wertin officiating. Inurnment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Rocky Ford, CO. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post #8 of Rocky Ford.
