With deep love and sorrow, we announce the passing of Deluvina Ramirez (Maestas), affectionately known as “Vina” and “Della,” a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this life on May 2, 2026, in Colorado Springs, surrounded by her children.

She was born on May 20, 1948, in Las Vegas, New Mexico, to Erminio Maestas and Amalia “Molly” Maestas. She spent her early years in Rocky Ford, where she attended local schools and built the strong foundation of values that would guide her throughout her life. She later made her home in La Junta, where she lived most of her adult life and became a quiet but steady presence in her community and family.

Deluvina was a woman defined by her love. Her love for her family, her home, and the simple joys of life. She found peace and happiness outdoors, often spending her time tending to yard work, nurturing her surroundings with care and pride. Her home was filled with warmth, not only from her presence but from the meals she lovingly prepared. She had a passion for discovering new recipes and bringing people together through food. Music also held a special place in her heart, especially the sounds of Al Hurricane and traditional New Mexican music, reflecting her deep cultural roots.

Above all, Deluvina was a woman of deep and unwavering faith. Her strong belief in God and her devotion to Jesus Christ guided her throughout her life, giving her strength during difficult times and shaping the love and compassion she showed to others. Her faith was not only something she believed it was something she lived every day through her kindness, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family.

She was united in marriage to Lowell John “LJ” Sheel in 1968, and later to Leonard J. Ramirez in 1974. Both preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Erminio Maestas Sr. and Amalia “Molly” Maestas; her siblings Ray Maestas, Erminio Maestas Jr., Bernice Maestas, and Mary L. Martinez; and her stepdaughter Kristina Rodriguez.

She leaves behind a legacy of love through her children: Keith Sheel, Lynette Ramirez, Michael Ramirez, Leonard Ramirez, and Katherine Ramsey. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, one great-grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews, siblings: William Maestas and Mary Lou Ramirez, her great aunt Martha Gonzales, and many extended family members and cousins who will continue to carry her memory forward.

Her life was not measured by grand titles or recognition, but by the quiet strength she showed, the love she gave freely, and the way she cared for those around her. She will be remembered for her resilience, her warmth, her deep faith in Jesus Christ, and the steady presence she was to so many.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18
