Dorothy Mae Felthager

March 24, 1932 - October 22, 2017

Dorothy Mae Felthager, 85, passed away peacefully, Sunday, October 22, 2017, at Parkview Medical Center surrounded by her family. A memorial service will be held at First Christian church 10:30 am Thursday, October 26 with Pastor John Dell officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Rocky Ford. Lunch for family will be provided at First Christian church following.

Dorothy was born March 24, 1932 in Model to John Schweizer and Mary (Grasmick) Schweizer. The family moved to "Dutch Row" in the Ft. Bent area when Dorothy was two years old. They lived there until she was about nine years old when they moved to the family farm west of Rocky Ford at Vroman.

October 5, 1952 Dorothy married Robert Lee Spate, two children were born to this union; Robert Dean (Bobby) Spate and Betty Marie Spate. Husband Robert preceded her in death in July 1987. She then married Melvin (Duke) Felthager August 1991; he died in June 1999.

Dorothy started school at Ft. Bent, then attended Vroman and later graduated from Manzanola High School in 1950.

During her lifetime Dorothy was a member of the German Congregational Church and later Bethel Baptist church and was active in many of the church activities. She worked for Rocky Ford Floral, Valley Supers, Northup King Seeds, Freeman's Bakery, and the bakery at Rhodes Grocery. She worked for Molly Hirada at the fruit stand west of Rocky Ford and cared for Mrs. Keefer during her final years. She and Melvin moved to Colorado Springs where they managed Park Manor Apartments.

Dorothy was preceded in death by both husbands, her son Bobby, her parents, and brother, Wilbert Schweizer; sister, Martha Schweizer; and sister Katherine Schweizer Heil.

She is survived by daughter, Betty Miller, (Ed Ehrlich); grandson and caregiver, Jeremy Miller; step-grandson Scott (Amanda) Ehrlich; brother, John (Thelma) Schweizer; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
