Mrs. Edith Cecilia Monroy, 84, of La Junta died Sunday, November 14th, 2010 at her residence. Edith was born in Lamar, CO on March 10, 1926, the daughter of the late Estaneslado Ed and Genoveva (Barela) Chavez. She was the widow of Alfonso Servin-Monroy. They were married Dec. 25, 1979 in La Junta, CO. He preceded her in death on March 20, 2000. She was a Homemaker and worked as a waitress and cook at the El Capitan and the High Chapparal. She also cleaned houses in the Rocky Ford area and lent a hand at the Hirakata Farms. She attended Light House Church in Rocky Ford. Son Dennis D. (Lourdes) Rains of Florence, AZ; Daughter Joan L. (Sandy) Chavez of La Junta, CO; Step Son Alfonso (Becky) Monroy, Jr. of Omaha, NE; Step Son Mickey (Amy) Monroy of La Junta, CO; Step Daughter Christina (Larry) Glover of Alabama; Step Son Max (Geraldine) Monroy of Denver, CO; Step Son Julio (Rose) Monroy of La Junta, CO; Brother Tony (Rachel) Chavez of Salina, KS; Sister Mary Cortinez of Rocky Ford, CO; Sister Jane Gabaldon of Rocky Ford, CO; Sister Arlene Garcia of Denver, CO; Sister Patsy (Manuel) Zarate of Cheyenne, WY. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: 3 brothers: Ernest, Edward & Manuel Chavez Funeral Services will be at the Ford-Ustick Funeral Home, Rocky Ford, CO, at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 20th, with Pastor Virgil Ortega officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 9 AM until 5 PM at Ford-Ustick Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Valley View Cemetery Rocky Ford, CO.
