Elisabeth Cuddy
August 3, 1921 - December 26, 2016
Elisabeth Ann Clevenger Cuddy (Betty) died in Port Orchard, Washington on Monday, December 26, 2016 at the age of 95. Betty was born in Rocky Ford, Colorado to James Austin Clevenger and Gladys Athelia Clevenger (Cowgill) on August 3, 1921. She grew up in Rocky Ford and graduated from Rocky Ford High School in 1939. She attended college at Western State in Gunnison, CO but after World War II broke out she began working at the La Junta Air Base as a secretary. There she met Sgt. Oliver James Cuddy and they were married on February 3, 1944. Ollie and Betty had 3 daughters – Ann, and the twins Pam and Peg. Ollie worked in the family chicken business for a few years, the Rocky Ford Hatchery on North Main, and then began a retail career with the Quaker Oats Company. The family moved to Denver first and then to Lubbock, Texas as Ollie moved up in that company. Betty worked at the Texas Tech Campus Library and then at the Campus Ministries in Lubbock in an office administrator positions. In 1971, Ollie and Betty retired to Ruidoso, New Mexico and opened up a gift and toy store and were prominent in many organizations there. In 1991 they moved to Gig Harbor, Washington to be near family. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Ollie, her parents, her sister and brother–in-law, Isabel Clevenger Ustick(Carl) and her brothers and their spouses, Jack Clevenger (Val) and Jerry Clevenger (Patricia Dunn and Jane Van Fossen) and her son-in-law, Ray Garner. She leaves behind her 3 daughters, Ann, and the twins Pam and Peg; one son-in-law (Michael) 3 grandsons, (Trey, Eric, and James) and 5 great-grandchildren (El, Connor, Katie, Aiden, and Olivia). Betty loved people, her family, and her hometown. She never met a stranger in her life and was always ready to have a good time. She had a giving spirit, a quick wit, and enjoyed traveling and new experiences. She was dedicated to her family and had researched the family history throughout the ages back into the 1300's. Her creative nature lead her to sewing and painting, and her intellect lead her to reading and research. She was well-loved by many and will be greatly missed. The family would like to express they're thanks to Orchard Pointe Memory Care and to Hospice of Kitsap County, Washington. A Graveside Memorial Service will be held at the Hillcrest Cemetery on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Marty Lee officiating.
