Ella G. Proctor

Ella G. Proctor died May 5, 2014 at Pioneer Nursing Home.

She was born April 5, 1923 in Arriola, Colorado north of Cortez, to Edward M. and Mabel G. (Greenwood) Gregory.

During the years 1931 to 1935 the family moved to Granada where her father taught at Granada High School. She remembered herding sheep in the summer out on the prairie. In 1935 the family moved to Ordway where she graduated from Ordway High School in 1942.

She married Gilbert L. Proctor on November 29, 1944 in Syracuse, Kansas. They farmed all over Colorado starting in Otero county, moving to Crowley county, Prowers county and back to Crowley county and then to Otero county again. During these years she worked at Adkinson Food Market and would help on the farm by driving trucks for the harvest of corn silage and sugar beets. She would also run errands like picking up parts for machinery and anything else that needed to be done and even at times operate a produce market.

But by far the most enjoyable was painting with her special friends, the canvas paintings, rocks, saw blades, Christmas ornaments and murals. She also enjoyed being involved with the churches and numerous bible studies she attended.

Big highlights were her trips to Alaska, Israel and Hawaii.

In the last days she just couldn't understand why the Good Lord was taking so long to take her home.

Mrs. Proctor was preceded in death by Gilbert, her husband of 45 years, her parents, brothers Edward and wife Zanetta (Young), Frank (Swede) and sister Doris and husband Earl Proctor.

She is survived by children, daughter Dixie (John) Schlee of Englewood, Colorado, two sons Keith (Loxi Sober) of Rocky Ford, Colorado, and Greg (Diane Popovich) of Franktown, Colorado. Grandchildren Renee (Steven) Campbell, Ja'net (Brad) Ogle, Kep Proctor, Justin (Sara Hanny) Schlee, 8 great grandchildren and one on the way. Sister Beverly (Bruce) Howell of Grand Junction.

Casket bearers will be Justin Schlee, Kep Proctor, Dirk Howell, Brad Ogle, Waylon Campbell and Greg Proctor.

Services for Ella Proctor will be at Valley Community Church at 9:00 A.M. Thursday the 8 th of May followed by gravesite at Hillcrest Cemetery in Rocky Ford.
