Esperanza "Hope" Montoya

March 31, 1937 - June 5, 2011

Mrs. Esperanza (Hope) Montoya, 74, of Rocky Ford went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 5th, 2011 while in the company of family members at her residence. Hope was born in Rocky Ford, CO on March 31, 1937, the daughter of the late Matias and Guadalupe (Chaparro) Ochoa. She attended schools in the Rocky Ford area. She was married to the late Carmel Montoya, Sr. on June 6, 1959 in Rocky Ford, CO. They later divorced. She worked for the Bilingual Program for 6 years then for the Migrant Program as a Records Clerk all at the Arkansas Valley Boces in Rocky Ford, CO for 16 years. She was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church Rocky Ford, CO 81067. She did volunteer work for the church by serving church dinners, bake sales, Bazaars and cleaning. She was a member of the St. Anthony's Circle for over 35 years and did volunteer work and was member of Colorado Women's Cancer Control Initiative. She loved to dance, play Bingo, go to Las Vegas and Cripple Creek. She also helped with girl scouts. She is survived by: Daughter Alice wife of Darrol Vigil of Rocky Ford, CO; Son Carmel Montoya, Jr. husband of Maria of Pueblo West, CO; Daughter Veronica wife of Randy Vallejos of Colorado Springs, CO; Daughter Patty wife of John Tutza of Colorado Springs, CO; Brother Manuel husband of Rita Ochoa of Colorado Springs, CO; Sister Josie wife of Tom Hassell of Denver, CO; Sister-in-law Mary Ochoa of Rocky Ford, CO. She is also survived by Grandchildren: Julie M. Montoya, Brian & Anthony Vigil, Julie K. Montoya, Amanda Olmedo, Breiana Montoya, Jessica & Daniel Ortega, Andrew, Vincent & Joshua Vallejos; 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters: Alicia Ochoa & Esther Atencio; 2 brothers: Matias, Jr. & Richard Ochoa and a grandson: Richard Montoya. A Vigil Service will be recited at 6:00 PM Thursday at St. Peters Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Peters Catholic Church, Rocky Ford, CO, at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 10th, with Fr. Don Malin officiating. A Visitation will be on Thursday from 12 PM until 4 PM at the Ford-Ustick Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Valley View Cemetery in Rocky Ford, CO.
