Felipe Medina

Felipe Medina, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Rocky Ford on March 2, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on March 21, 1947, in Maes, New Mexico, Felipe was known for his joyful spirit and an infectious laugh that could light up any room. He devoted his life to his family and his work, spending many fulfilling years with BNSF Railroad, where he took immense pride in his career.

Felipe was a jokester at heart, always finding ways to make those around him smile. His love for life was palpable, as he filled every moment with happiness, especially when surrounded by his adored grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Some of the happiest memories of his life were spent in the mountains, sharing the joys of hunting and fishing, instilling in his children and grandchildren a love for the great outdoors.

He was a man who embraced many interests, from enjoying scratcher tickets and cruising around town to relishing chicken enchiladas at Mission Deli and visiting home in Maes for dances. Felipe’s joy resonated through every aspect of his life, which was committed to nurturing laughter and creating lasting memories with his loved ones.

Felipe is survived by his four children: Vince (Eva) Medina of Pueblo, Willie (Theresa) Medina of Pueblo, Felipe (Lisa) Medina, Jr. of Rio Rancho, NM, and Louie (Crystal) Medina of Rocky Ford. He leaves behind a legacy of love embodied in his grandchildren: Ashley (Anthony) DeHerrera, Alexandra (Ben) Rush-Miller, Amanda Medina, Yvonne Medina, Yvette Medina, Willie Medina, Jr., Carley (Jon) Hernandez, Sarony Medina, Emily Medina, Selena (Chris) Gonzales, Gary DeLeon, Jayden DeLeon, and Louie Medina, Jr. along with 11 great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to his later years.

Felipe will also be greatly missed by his siblings: Moises (Irene) Medina, Jr. and Frances (Danny) Padilla, as well as his special friend Gloria Arragon. His life touched many, and his spirit will remain with the numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who hold dear the memories of a loving family man.

Felipe rejoins his parents and brothers, Louis Medina and Bob Medina, and will forever be remembered for his enduring spirit. His proudest accomplishments stemmed from his family, and he was most proud of the values he instilled and the bonds he formed, especially through teaching his children and grandchildren how to hunt—a legacy that will live on in them.

Family and friends are invited to honor Felipe’s life at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Rocky Ford, where a Rosary will be held on March 12, 2026, at 10:00 AM, followed by a Mass at 11:00 AM. Felipe Medina’s vibrant spirit and joyful laughter will be deeply missed but fondly remembered, bringing peace and warmth to the hearts of those who knew him.
