Frances Irene (Allen) Schlegel, 90, of Rocky Ford, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 16, 2018 in Rocky Ford.

Frances Irene (Allen) Schlegel was born November 21, 1927 to Mollie Cartwright Allen and Samuel Ross Allen in La Junta, CO.

She attended schools in Higbee and La Junta, graduating with the La Junta High School class of 1945. She also attended Denver University.

Frances married George J. Schlegel of Rocky Ford on August 6, 1950 in Swink. She was a homemaker until 1977 at which time she began working as a teller at Colorado Bank and Trust in La Junta. She retired in 1993. She continued to live on the family farm until late 2000 when she moved to La Junta. She moved to the Pioneer Nursing Home in early 2017 and was a resident there until her death.

Frances loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was always happy to see them when they visited.

Frances was an excellent cook, enjoyed crocheting, knitting and sewing, was an avid reader, and was quite the gardener. She was a 4-H leader and a charter member of the Holbrook Neighbors Home Extension Club.       Â

Frances is survived by her five daughters:  Sandra ( Roy) Sanchez of Alamosa, CO, Barbara (Steve) DuBois of Black Canyon City, AZ, Janice (Roger) Robbins of Brighton, CO, Diane (Mary) Schlegel of Glendora, CA, Nadine Holt of La Junta, CO, her sister Mary Jane (Gus) Gearhart of La Junta, CO, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Mollie and Samuel Allen, her husband George J. Schlegel, brothers Jim, John, David, and sisters Margaret and Barbara.

Visitation will be Monday, November 19th from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon at the Ford-Ustick Funeral Home in Rocky Ford with graveside services following at 1:00PM at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Rocky Ford.
