Obituary

Frank Gallegos, Sr., 68, of Rocky Ford, CO, passed away Monday, December 24th, while in the company of family, at Parkview Medical Center, Pueblo.

Frank was born in Rocky Ford, CO on March 15, 1950, a son of George Edward and Buena Ventura (Montoya) Gallegos.

Frank graduated from Rocky Ford High School and Trinidad Junior College with a Degree in Law Enforcement. He received his Associate Degree from Otero Junior College.

He was the husband of Hope June (Bustamante) Gallegos, they were married on March 20, 1971 in Rocky Ford.

He was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Rocky Ford, CO.

He served 3 tours in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict.

Frank worked as an Under Sheriff at Bent County Sheriff Office after retiring from the Rocky Ford Police Department as the Chief of Police.

He was a past Board of Director for the Plaza Nueva Residential Housing and served as the D.A.R.E officer for Rocky Ford Police Department.

Frank was a loving husband, father and grandfather and loved spending time with his family. He was easy spoken yet right to the point, but also had a fun loving sense of humor and loved to joke around. A huge pillar of gentleness and stature, always helping everyone that needed it and even some that didn't. He had a strong faith in God. He was always available to give advice, guidance or just listen. Frank was an inspiration to many and will be greatly missed by this community, his friends and most important, his family.

He is survived by his wife Hope of the home;

Daughter Tera Gallegos, of Colorado Springs, CO;

Daughter Elisha Gallegos, of Rocky Ford, CO;

Son Frank (Jennett) Gallegos, Jr., of Colorado Springs, CO;

Sister Georgina Meehan, of Colorado Springs, CO;

Brother Charles Gallegos, of Colorado Springs, CO;

Sister Margaret (Urvin) Medina, of Rocky Ford, CO;

Brother George Gallegos, of Rocky Ford, CO;

Brother Jimmy Gallegos, of Rocky Ford, CO.

He is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Whitney Gallegos of Rocky Ford, Dominick Romero of Rocky Ford, Marissa Gallegos of Colorado Springs, Frankie Gallegos of Colorado Springs; 1 great - grandchild: Anthony Mahar of Rocky Ford.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Nancy Gallegos and a brother: Thomas Gallegos.

A Rosary Service will be recited Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 10:00 AM with the Memorial Mass to follow at 10:30 AM both at the Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish in La Junta, CO with Fr. Henry Wertin officiating. Inurnment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Rocky Ford, CO. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rocky Ford Police Dept. in c/o the Frank Gallegos, Sr. Memorial Fund 203 S. 9th Rocky Ford, CO 81067.
