Gabaldon
September 21, 1924 – February 2, 2021
Genevieve Chavez Gabaldon, 96, of Rocky Ford, CO, passed away Tuesday, February 2nd, at University Park Care Center, Pueblo, Pueblo.
Genevieve was born in Lamar, CO on September 21, 1924, a daughter of the late Genevieve (Barela) and Estanislao Chavez.
She was the widow of Guadalupe Hernandez Gabaldon, they were married on August 27, 1941 in Raton, New Mexico.
She was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Rocky Ford, CO.
Genevieve was a very big hearted authoritative woman who enjoyed life to the fullest and was affectionally known as "Jane". She practiced her faith very strongly and passed that faith on to her family. "Momma Jane" would pray her Rosary daily for all who needed prayers. Friends and family would ask her to pray for them if they were going through worrisome times. She would also tell them which saint would interceded for their needs. She was a member of the St. Peter's Catholic Church and volunteered for the St. Dominic Women's Circle, serving as Eucharistic Minister to the homebound and cooking for the funeral dinners.
She was a talented embroider, made the best green and red chili in the world and was famous for her enchiladas. The family tradition started with making tamales for Christmas with her mother and sisters and roasting bushels of green chili with her "girls" every year. The family matriarch will be lovingly and sadly missed.
She is survived by: Daughter Lupe Acosta, of Pueblo, Co.; Daughter Alice, wife of Adolph Berumen, of Pueblo, Co.. Daughter Rebecca, wife of Michael Aragon, of Albuquerque, NM; Daughter Christine Gabaldon (David Barela) of Rocky Ford, CO; Sister Patsy, wife of Manuel Zarate, of Cheyenne, WY; She is also survived by 5 grandchildren; 27 great - grandchildren and 12 great - great - grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, compadres and comadres.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Rania Sandoval, nurse at the University Park Care Center, for the wonderful care she provided while taking care of Genevieve.
