Georgina Betty Edgar
February 22, 1924 - September 29, 2015
Georgina Betty-Wade Edgar, 91, of Rocky Ford, CO, passed away Tuesday, September 29th, peacefully, at Pioneer Health Care Center. Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, and friend, Georgina Betty Wade Burchett Edgar, led an exceptional life. A daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, a God-made teacher, a mentor and a friend…she was the mirror that taught us to look for the good in others, to see God's hand in everything. Georgina tirelessly gave of herself to her husband, Harold. They were married for (47) years before he passed away in 1991. They would have been married for 71 years if he had lived, and she has never taken off her wedding ring. They were both born in Rocky Ford and lived there all of their lives. Whether it was supporting Harold's horseracing career, lovingly preparing dinners for him when he worked campaigns at the sugar factory, or overseeing the clubhouse and social events when they managed the golf course on reservoir hill, she was always there for her husband. Georgina was a remarkable mother to Terry and Ernie - supporting them in whatever endeavor they undertook. She was always there when they needed her, and she could always be counted on. Georgina and Harold provided everything they possibly could for their children. They made sure that Ernie and Terry had every opportunity possible growing up - from dance lessons, to basketball games, to swimming, to college educations. She was a wonderful grandmother to her only grandchild, Lindsay Galbraith. Lindsay has lived all her life in California, but both her grandparents loved her dearly and treasured their visits to California or Lindsay's visits to Colorado. Georgina was a devoted daughter to her parents, Mary and Walter Burchett. She cared for them lovingly through their last days on earth. She was a faithful sister to her siblings - Marguerite Snider, Lester Burchett, and Alfred Burchett. She was a loving daughter-in-law and sister-in-law to the Edgar family. She spent innumerable hours sewing clothes for Terry on her Singer sewing machine or helping Ernie with a science project. She was wonderfully creative with many types of arts and crafts projects for various occasions and organizations. She made all of the family's curtains/draperies, reupholstered and refinished furniture, created and designed many of the interior features of their homes. She prepared wonderful meals for her family every morning, noon, and night (with the family sitting together at the dinner table) and hosted many, many holiday dinners for the extended family. Georgina was a brilliant business woman. She worked for Southern Colorado Power Company for 30 years and was the first woman to assume the role of District Manager. She knew how to create and stay within a budget. She was a whiz with numbers and any type of bookkeeping. Due to financial constraints, she had only one year of college at Colorado State University, but if the opportunity had presented itself, she could have gone on to be anything she chose (an attorney would have been a fitting choice for Georgina.) She had an infectious laugh and would indulge in great laughter with her family at something silly until they all ended up in tears! Georgina was fiercely independent until the day she died. She was determined to overcome any frailties. She took pride in coordinating her wardrobe and keeping her smart sense of style. She was always a natural beauty, did not wear make-up most of her life, and never colored her hair! Georgina was a pillar of the Rocky Ford community and of the church. She faithfully attended and contributed to the Rocky Ford Presbyterian Church all of her life - from teaching Sunday school to being a Deacon. Her passing is a huge loss to her family and to anyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Mom, Daddy has been waiting for you for 24 years. We know you are reunited in God's loving arms. Only time will tell us how to live without you. We know you are watching over us and your love will live on forever in our hearts. She is survived by ; Son Ernest Edgar, of Albuquerque, NM; Daughter Terry Edgar, of Newport Beach, CA; Granddaughter Lindsay Galbraith, of Malibu, CA. She is also survived by Numerous Nieces and Nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Harold; sister: Marguerite Snider; 2 brothers: Lester and Alfred Burchett.
