Gladys "Peg" Vowles, 97, of Rocky Ford, CO, passed away peacefully Friday, August 4th, at her residence. Gladys was born in Garden Prairie, IL on July 14, 1920, a daughter of the late Edith Anne (Court) and Arthur Charles Bye. She married Henry Vowles on Feb. 24, 1941 in Dubuque, IA. They farmed and had 3 children before moving to Colorado in 1963. They celebrated 53 years of marriage until he passed away in 1994. Together they managed a motel and apartments for several years. She also volunteered at the thrift shop. Gladys's passion was flowers and plants and especially her rose garden. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, baking, (she was remembered for her pies) and going to yard sales. She attended the River of Life Fellowship in Ordway, CO. Gladys loved her family very much, she was the heart and soul of the family and was the glue that held us all together. She is survived by; Son Charles, husband of Norma Vowles, of Manzanola, CO; Daughter Nancy, wife of Ray Harris, of Rocky Ford, CO; Son Harry "Willie" Vowles, of Ruston, LA; Sister-in-law Imagene Bye, of Belvidere, IL. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Henry (Renee) Vowles, David (Heather) Vowles, Christine (John) Schulz, Harry (Leslie) Vowles, Jennifer Love, Wanda Garner, Brian Vowles. 17 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren and her grand-dog Sunny. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 4 brothers: Leslie Bye, Raymond Bye, Merril Bye, Maynard Bye; 2 sisters: Elsie Fidder & Edna Fidder; grandson: Gary Love. Public Viewing will be held 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Tuesday, August 8th at Ford-Ustick Funeral Home in Rocky Ford, CO. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 9th at River of Life Fellowship in Ordway, CO with Pastor John Dell officiating. Interment will be at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Rocky Ford, CO. In honor of her love for flowers, the family request floral donations and would be greatly appreciated.
