Gottlieb L. Grasmick, better known as "Scotty" passed away February 24, 2010 at Pioneer Health Care Center where he had lived for the last eight years. He was born in Wiley, Co. on January 3, 1908, the son of the late Ludwig and Katie Elizabeth (Bauer) Grasmick, where he lived until he was 10 years old. At that time, his family moved to Rocky Ford. He has lived in Rocky Ford the rest of his life. On January 25, 1931 he married Lydia (Markus) Grasmick in Rocky Ford. She preceded him in death in 1993. They were married for 62 years. He was a farmer and was known for a great work ethic. Following his retirement from farming, he went to work doing more farming for "Salty" Schlegel and later as grounds keeper for Frank & Hal Holder. He attributes his long life to hard work in the fresh air, living a good life and his belief in God. He was a charter member of Valley Community Church and for several years was the grounds keeper for the church. He has seen many changes in agriculture in his lifetime, especially the size and speed of tractors and other machinery. He loved tractors and trucks and especially enjoyed the riding lawn mower he used at Holder's to keep the lawn looking good. Scotty celebrated his 102nd birthday on January 3rd at the Pioneer Health Care Center with family and friends. He is survived by; Son Robert husband of Carol Grasmick of Rocky Ford, CO; Daughter Catherine Lucille McJunkins of Denver, CO; Daughter Ruth wife of Frank Freidenberger of Rocky Ford, CO; Son Roy husband of Margaret Grasmick of Rocky Ford, CO; Brother Earnest Grasmick of Rocky Ford; 6 grandchildren: Kurt Grasmick, Douglas McJunkins, Linda Jackson, Gregg Freidenberger, Steve Freidenberger and Kimberly Van Horn Minier; Several great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his grandson: Rick Grasmick in 1984 and several brothers and sisters. Funeral Services will be at the Valley Community Church, Rocky Ford, at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 26th, with Pastor Kurt England and Pastor Wallace Kurtz officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5-8 PM at Ford-Ustick Funeral Home and on Friday from 9AM until 12 PM at Ford-Ustick Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Rocky Ford, CO. Memorials may be made to Valley Community Church 27435 Cnty Rd. 22.75 Rocky Ford, CO 81067 or to the charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ford-Ustick Funeral Home.
