Hazel Goebel

Hazel Irene Goebel, 96, of Rocky Ford, CO, passed away Thursday, August 3rd, 2017 peacefully at Pioneer Health Care Center, Rocky Ford, CO. Hazel was born in Rocky Ford, CO on April 3, 1921, a daughter of the late Pauline (Ochs) and Adam Lohrey. She attended the Rocky Ford schools. She was the widow of William "Bill" Goebel, they were married on Jan. 3, 1939 in Rocky Ford, CO. He preceded her in death in 2005. For many years, she was a member of the St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Rocky Ford. She loved the Lord and read her bible every day. During WWII, she worked at the canning factory in Manzanola and later as a cook at Jefferson Junior High. After attending classes and seminars, she was rated as a master gardener. She and her husband Bill farmed for many years in the Rocky Ford and Manzanola areas. They also owned farms in Walnut Grove, CA and Delta, CO. She loved to travel and visited her parents in California and siblings in Nevada, Idaho, California, Texas and Tennessee. During her four children's working careers, she managed to to visit them in a dozen states, from Massachusetts to California and from Washington. D.C. to Washington state and Texas. She also visited son Don in Hawaii and son Bob in Alaska. On a trip to Europe, in 1973, she visited Luxumbourg, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and France. She is survived by: Son Don Goebel, of Rocky Ford, CO.; Son Bob, (Jerusha) Goebel, of Colorado Springs, CO; Daughter Shirley Ranus, of Pueblo, CO; Daughter Sherry (Frank) Sayers, of Woodland Park, CO. She is also survived by numerous granddaughters, grandsons, great grandsons, great granddaughters and two great-great grandchildren. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 7 brothers, 2 sisters, a granddaughter and a grandson. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 11th at Trinity Lutheran Church in La Junta, CO with Pastor Rick Miller officiating.
