Her family homesteaded about 19 miles north of Fowler when she was 2 years old. She lost her mother at age 14 and finished the 9th grade at Grand View School. She then moved to Fowler, worked for her board and room and finished High School thru the 12th grade. She soon met and later married Allen Ray Nevins of Rocky Ford on May 25th , 1935. She then took on the responsibility of her little sister, Stella. She worked in food service in numerous places from Rocky Ford to La Junta, either as a waitress or cook. She bought a hamburger and malt shop in Swink called the Diary King and managed it's operation for about 10 years from 1955 to 1965. Her greatest accomplishment was becoming a Christian in 1969 and a member of Christ's church. She loved studying her Bible, teaching little children and sharing her love with others. When she retired at age 70, she sold her home where she had lived for 50 years in Rocky Ford. She moved to a country home in Manzanola on property owned by her daughter. There she loved gardening, raising chickens and enjoying the wildlife. Her other enjoyments were quilting, sewing, crafts, entertaining family and friends and being active in the church. In 1995, upon the death of her son-in-law Glen Pittullo, her and Norma Jean moved to Fowler. She stayed very active well into her 90's.
