Henry Bitter

Henry Bitter, 97, of Rocky Ford, CO, passed away Monday, January 5th, peacefully at Pioneer Health Care Center. Henry was born in Rocky Ford, CO on April 14, 1917, a son of the late Christine Mary (Martin) and Henry Bitter, Sr. He was the widower of Freda (Keck) Bitter, they were married on January 10, 1937 at the German Congregational Church in Rocky Ford, CO. He worked as a self employed farmer. In the earlier years Henry worked for Green & Babcock Lumber Company and Safeway in Rocky Ford and Lamar. His passion was farming and he had the opportunity to farm for American Crystal Sugar Company until 1984. After retirement Henry's personality wouldn't allow him to stay home so he decided to sell cars for June Chevrolet. He was a member of First United Methodist Church Rocky Ford, CO. Henry was a member of the Chamber of Commerce; longtime member of the ELKS BPOE #1147; Rocky Ford Country Club. He is survived by; Daughter Joyce, wife of Ed Clute, of Rocky Ford, CO; Sister Lydia Keysey, of Colorado Springs, CO; Sister Helen Argo, of Fowler, CO; Granddaughter Leslie Carman, of Rocky Ford, CO; Grandson Brian, husband of Becky Clute, of Aledo, TX. He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren: Cassandra (Nate) Nelander, Caitlin Carman, Andrew Clute, Dan Clute, Randy Clute; 1 Great-Great Grandson: Nathan Nelander He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers & 2 sisters. Funeral Services will be at the First United Methodist Church, Rocky Ford, CO, at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 9th, with Pastor Marty Lee officiating. At the family's request there will be no viewing Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery Rocky Ford, CO. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church 301 W. Washington Rocky Ford, CO 81067. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford-Ustick Funeral Home.
