James Gregory
August 8, 1958 - October 11, 2014
Jim Gregory died suddenly on October 11, 2014 at a hospital in La Junta, Colorado. Jim was born August 8, 1958 in Sterling, Colorado to Sylvia Pauline "Polly" Gregory and James Dwight "J.D." Gregory. He attended Sterling area schools and up through his Junior year at Sterling High School. Jim became debilitated as a teenager by schizophrenia and for several years was institutionalized at the Colorado State Hospital in Pueblo. In recent years, his condition had improved enough for him to reside in a Rocky Ford nursing home. While there, he worked part time at maintaining the recreation room. Before his illness and back to his grade school days, Jim was known for his sense of humor. He would entertain friends and family with his comedic monologue as well as his impressions of famous people such as Richard Nixon, John Wayne, and Muhammad Ali. As a teen, Jim became a skilled rock drummer and especially liked playing to the song "Wipe Out" by the Surfaris. He also had a passion for driving his off track motorcycle. Jim is survived by his brothers Cliff and Jeff, sisters-in-law Nancy and Jane, niece Leslee and nephews Jack and Joe. A private memorial service is being planned. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jim may be made to the Colorado State Music Teachers Association, www.comusicteachers.net/donate Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford-Ustick Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to www.fordustick.com.
