Jean Elaine Petrie, 88, of Olney Springs, CO, passed away Wednesday, May 8th, while in the company of family, at her residence. .

Jean was born in Fowler, CO on September 16, 1930, a daughter of the late Nellie Inez (Smith) and James Emmett McCuistion.

She was the widow of Chester Oliver Petrie. they were married on December 29, 1949 in Fowler, CO.

She was a member of Fowler United Methodist Church, Fowler, CO.

Jean started working for the telephone company after she gradated from High School.  She continued working there until the office closed in 1963.  After raising her 3 children, she raised 4 of her grandchildren.  After the death of her husband, she continued ranching. Â

She supported her grandchildren in their 4-H activities and was a volunteer with their club. She also volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America, United Methodist Women's group along with many other community events that included school, church and activities with her grandchildren.

Jean enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking, gardening and volunteering whenever she could. She loved people and knowing their stories. She loved reading the Bible, attending Sunday school and reading all kinds of local news. Jean's greatest joy was her family, she didn't miss any of her grandchildren's activities, be it sports, 4-H and school. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by: Son Rod (Toni) Petrie, of Thedford, NE; Daughter Raylene (Todd) Wetzel, of Olney Springs, CO; Sister Dorothy Baker, of Fowler, CO; Sister Verena (Don) Rogge, of Littleton, CO; Brother Willis (Fran) McCuistion, of Arizona; Sister Maxine (Larry) Adcock, of Swink, CO. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Chet; son: Rufus Petrie; grandson: William Petrie; sister: Marie Tilson and infant sister Martha McCuistion; brother: J.H. McCuistion.

Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 14th at Fowler United Methodist Church in Fowler, CO with Pastor Phil Gibson and Brother Mike Diodosio officiating. Inurnment will be private at a later time.
