Jean L. Proctor

Jean Lucille (Mast) Proctor of Rocky Ford passed away peacefully September 3, 2016 in Ordway, CO. She was 90 years old. Jean is preceded in death by her husband for 66 years Leonard W. Proctor and her son Leonard W. (Bill) Proctor II. Jean was born in Ordway, Colorado to parents Harry E. and Lena Mast on July 14, 1926. She is the last surviving member of her family having two sisters and a brother. She graduated from high school in Ordway and then attended the University of Colorado in Boulder getting a teaching degree. She taught 6th grade in La Junta, Colorado briefly before marrying Leonard Proctor from Rocky Ford. Jean, known as Jeanna to her family, and Leonard raised seven children and her family was her life. She devoted herself to making a home, raising her children, and supporting her husband who farmed and ranched in the Arkansas Valley. At the heart of Jeanna's life and in her heart was and is her savior the Lord Jesus Christ. She would share with family often to live for the moment. She lived a full and never uneventful life always making the best of any situation without complaint. Those who knew Jean knew her as an "Up" person who encouraged others. She was an inspiration not only to her family but to all those she came in contact with. She will be missed. One of her favorite bible verses was, "This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it."(Psalm 118:24). She would often remind her family to keep looking up …. "Looking to Jesus Christ the author and Finisher of our faith."(Hebrews 12:12). Immediate family members include daughters: Caroline (George) Di Domenico; Suzanne Proctor; Nancy Lee Proctor; Mary Ann (Vance) Zimmerman; Conni Jean (Todd) Smith; and son Leonard Joseph (Amy) Proctor. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren are: Dominic (Katie) Di Domenico and son Lorenzo; Mario Di Domenico; Ann (Matt) Schilling and daughters Gabrielle and Claire; Gina (Daniel) Horton and son Malachi; David Lee Proctor; Clint Wade Zimmerman; Amie (Seth) Wilsey and daughter Annebelle Lee; Elizabeth Ann (Mike) Zeek; Katherine Smith and daughter Vera; Jessica Lynn Smith; Rebecca Smith; and Joshua Proctor. Graveside Services will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 9th at Hillcrest Cemetery in Rocky Ford, CO, with Joseph Proctor officiating. There will be no public viewing. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery Rocky Ford, CO. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford-Ustick Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to www.fordustick.com.
