Jerry Edward Clevenger

Mr. Jerry Edward Clevenger, 85, of Mesa, AZ, formerly of Rocky Ford, died on Tuesday, September 14th, 2010 at his residence. Jerry was born in Rocky Ford, CO on May 22, 1925, the son of the late James "Jimmy" Austin and Gladys Athalia (Cowgill) Clevenger. He graduated from Rocky Ford High School. Jerry went into the Navy when he was 17. His father had to go with him because he wasn't old enough to join the service. He was very proud to be on an American Naval Ship, the LST 310. He recently donated his collection of 110 WWII books to the Rocky Ford Library. After the war, on August 10, 1947 he married Patricia Ann "Pat" Dunn. Jerry came back to Rocky Ford and went into the Chicken Hatchery Business. He was the President of Colorado Poultry and Hatchery Association in 1971. Jerry was an excellent carpenter and after his wife Pat died, he moved to Washington state, where he built a two bedroom boat. He lived on this boat for several years, until he moved to Mesa, AZ and married Jane Van Fossen. He is survived by and children: . Son William "Bill" and daughter-in-law Roseanne "Annie" Clevenger of Mililani, HI; Step-Daughter-in-Law Marta Hendrickson of Hanford, CA; Sister Elizabeth "Betty" Cuddy of Gig Harbor, WA. Granddaughters: Elizabeth "Liz" and Kathleen "Kate" of San Francisco, CA; Step-Granddaughters: Jenna and Emma Van Fossen of California; He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: John "Jack" Clevenger; Sister: Isabel "Izzy" Ustick and wives Pat and Jane. Graveside services will be held Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Rocky Ford. Inurnment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. There will be no viewing.
