Joe "Phil" F. Aragon, 82, of Rocky Ford, died at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs on Jan. 2, 2017. He was born to Silvestre and Benigna (Castillo) Aragon on May 1, 1934 in Dahlia, NM. He was the widower of Bernice E. (Cordova) Aragon. Mr. Aragon was a self-employed cattle rancher with his wife Bernice, and they both took pride in owning their own cattle brand and ranch. They were also co-owners of B&J Collectibles. Mr. Aragon loved spending time with his daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Prior to his wife's death, Mr. Aragon and his wife enjoyed the animals at the ranch, planting vegetables and flowers, and antiquing. Later he enjoyed building hot rods. He loved reading, studying history, watching the history channel, westerns, and writing his memoirs. He is preceded in death by his parents, Silvestre and Benigna Aragon; wife, Bernice E. Aragon; son, Joseph Aragon; and brother, Florencio Aragon. Mr. Aragon is survived by daughters, Darlene (Simon) of Colorado Springs, and Cindy Cardenas of Pueblo; brother Dan Aragon of Rocky Ford; and sisters Molly (Tony) Trujillo of Colorado Springs; and Ann (Armando) Melgosa of Mesa, AZ. Other survivors include grandchildren, Michael A Romero, Jr.; Sharol Martinez; Delfino Victor Jr. (Ashley) Martinez; Dereck (Erika) Martinez; Brandon, and Keri Cardenas; and great-grandchildren, Marlena Rivas, Emrie Rose Martinez, and Olivia Blake Martinez; and nieces, nephews, and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Mon. Jan. 9th at St. Peters Catholic Church in Rocky Ford, with Father Bill Rhinehart officiating. Viewing will be 1 – 3 p.m. on Sun. Jan. 8th at Ford-Ustick Funeral Home in Rocky Ford. Rosary Service will be at 10 – 10:30 a.m. on Mon. Jan. 9th at St. Peters Catholic Church in Rocky Ford. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Rocky Ford. The family requests donations to the Colorado Springs Fire Department, Colorado Springs, CO.
