Mr. John Richert, Jr., 91, formerly of Rocky Ford died on Thursday, November 27th, 2008 while in the company of family members at Crowley County Nursing Center, Ordway, Crowley County, CO. John was born in Rocky Ford, CO on July 17, 1917, the son of the late John and Ella (DK) Richert. He graduated from LaJunta High School and Colorado University with a degree in Business. He was the widower of Marjorie Helen (Aschermann) Richert. They were married on April 26, 1947 in LaJunta. He was the President at Empire Bank in Rocky Ford, and was the type of banker who loaned on character not just collateral. He participated in golf and tennis, where he was the first state doubles champion in the state of Colorado. He was an avid golfer and member of the Rocky Ford Country Club. He was a member of the Rocky Ford Rotarians, ELKS, JC's and was past president of the Rocky Ford Chamber of Commerce. He loved the outdoors, hiking and traveling. But he most loved his wife and daughters and being a family man. He never knew a stranger and was considered a true gentleman. He served in the U.S. Army in WW II. He is survived by: Daughter Candice Anne wife of Dennis Kreps of Tuscon, AZ; Daughter Cynthia Kay wife of Robert Miltenberger of Pueblo, CO; Daughter Christine Richert of Phoenix, AZ; Daughter Cheryl Richert of Rocky Ford, CO; Granddaughter Jayci Miltenberger of Pueblo, CO. He was preceded in death by an infant son; 2 BR: Olin & Milton Richert Funeral Services will be at the at First United Methodist Church, Rocky Ford, CO, at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, December 3rd, with Rev. Olga Hard officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 3 - 6 PM at the Ford-Ustick Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemeteries La Junta, CO. Family request donations to Arkansas Valley Hospice 118 W. 4th La Junta, CO 81050 or Alzheimers Association in c/o the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford-Ustick Funeral Home.
