John L. Stivers of Ordway, Colorado formerly of Casey, Illinois passed away in his sleep at age 65. John was born on February 21, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois to James and Tabitha (Newlin) Stivers.

John can be remembered by the way he could "color a story." John was a graduate of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Illinois with a EdD, MS, BA, and AS.

John is survived by his wife Amy (Smith) Stivers., his children Teddy (Theda)Stivers Drone (Mike), Athena Stivers (Bob Vieth), and Tabitha Smith (Aaron), the mother of his children and former wife Minga (Buckle) Stivers, grandchildren Mia, Cynthia; Melodie, Karissa, Cody, Dylan, Brendan, Logan, Austin, and Emma. He is also survived by his siblings, David (Kathy Stout) Stivers of Marshall, IL; Danny (Corina) Stivers of Casey, IL; Michael (Denise) Stivers of Martinsville, IL; Richard (Cindy) Stivers of Mattoon, IL; Dennis (Karla) Stivers of Marion, IL; Charlotte Connerton of Marshall, IL; Charles (Kari Ellington) Stivers of Casey, IL; James Stivers of Alabama, Alice (Stivers) James of Alabama, Dave (Karen) Wilson of Casey, IL, Tom Allison of Ordway, CO, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Tabitha (Newlin) Stivers, and siblings Ted Stivers and Alberta (Stivers) Johnson.

At his request, private family services will be held at a later date.
