IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Judith A.
Dell
April 17, 1948 – January 8, 2021
Judith Ann Dell, 72, of Swink, CO, passed away Friday, January 8th, at Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center, La Junta.
Judith was born in La Junta, CO on April 17, 1948, a daughter of the late Ida (Caravajal) Wilson and Dan Callahan.
She was the wife of Rick Dell, they were married on July 21, 1989 in La Junta, CO.
Judy worked as a CNA at Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center for 14 years before working as the lunch cashier at Swink School. She worked at Swink School for 22 years seeing several classes start in kindergarten and make it all the way to high school graduation. She loved to see all of the kids everyday and even after retiring could still remember almost every student's lunch number. While working at the school, Judy would also help as a Spanish translator, something that she really loved to do and also ran the concession stand, or as some said, a small-scale restaurant. For several years Judy also worked as a home health nurse where she met and cared for elderly patients throughout the valley. Outside of work hours Judy loved to attend all things Swink, whether it was graduations, sporting activities, plays, or any other event. Judy especially loved getting to attend her kids and grandkids activities and it was one of her favorite things watching them grow up, some of them, right here in Swink. Â
Judy was also a member of First Christian Church in Rocky Ford, where she was a member for 23 years, served as the church board president for 21 years, and church elder for 10 years. One of her favorite outreach programs she oversaw in the church was Operation Christmas Child. She could always be counted on to attend bible study or board meeting, usually bringing a delicious dessert as well. After retiring Judy was able to join the Joy of Living bible study with her sister-in-law, which she greatly enjoyed. Judy loved to cook, loved to serve, and loved to spend time with her family and friends. Judy was not a perfect person, but she knew her Savior was and in her final time on this earth, she was most thankful for knowing Jesus.
She is survived by: Husband Rick of Swink; Daughter Susan (Horace) Moreno, of Pueblo West, CO; Daughter Sherry Downey, of Joshua Tree, CA; Daughter Deena Downey, of Swink, CO; Son Tyler Dell, of Johnstown, CO; Sister Theresa Duran, of Colorado Springs, CO.
She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents; daughter: Christie Whalen; 3 brothers: Raymond & Alvin Gonzales and Charles Duran.
Due to Covid-19, a memorial service and inurnment of her cremains will be at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church; 400 S. 9th; Rocky Ford, CO 81067.
