Mrs. Julia Lucero, 83, formerly of Rocky Ford, of Pueblo died on Monday, January 24th, 2011 peacefully at Pueblo Care & Rehabilitation Services, Pueblo, CO. Julia was born in Rosiada, NM on August 31, 1927, the daughter of the late Fermin Jose and Marianita Enrika (Garcia) Sanchez. She graduated from high school in Las Vegas, NM and took some classes from OJC. She was the widow of Ramon Bernadino Lucero. They were married on February 9, 1985 in Rocky Ford, CO. He preceded her in death on March 19, 2010. She was married to Henry Ortega on July 2, 1945 in Trinidad, CO. He preceded her in death on Dec. 9, 2002. She worked at Department of Social Services in La Junta, CO. She had also worked at the First Industrial Bank of Rocky Ford and was co-owner of Henry's Cleaners in Rocky Ford. She was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Rocky Ford. She is survived by: Daughter Sylvia Ortega-Ayala and husband Frank Ayala of Pueblo, CO; Daughter Kathy wife of Tony Quintana of Pueblo, CO; Step Daughter Barbara wife of Al Ramirez of Commerce City, CO; Granddaughter Debbie wife of Jim Carson of La Junta, CO; Granddaughter Shelley Ward (Mike Welliver) of Pueblo, CO; Grandson Anthony Quintana, Jr. of Buena Vista, CO; Granddaughter Kim Oliver (Larry Hand) of Pueblo, CO; Granddaughter Stacy wife of Jeff Leese of Littleton, CO; Granddaughter Michele wife of Steve Wilson of Pueblo, CO. She is also survived by Great-Grandchildren: Jesse Carson, T'naus Nieto, Danielle Ward, Jordan Ward, Jacob Gonnerman, Mathew Lyons, Julia McManus, Erin Sanchez and Chandler Wilson; 2 great-great-grandsons: Tezakih & Noah Nieto; 3 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law and 5 nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers: Albert Sanchez and John Sanchez; sister: Mary Sanchez A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Peters Catholic Church, Rocky Ford, at 10:00 AM on Thursday, January 27th, with Fr. Charlie Sena officiating. A Rosary Service will be recited 9:30 AM Thursday at the St. Peters Catholic Church. A visitation will be on Wednesday from 3-5 PM at Ford-Ustick Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Rocky Ford. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford-Ustick Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to www.fordustick.com.
