Karen Sue (Hawkins) Williams, 59, Rocky Ford, died Jan. 15, 2009, at the Swedish Medical Center in Englewood. Mrs. Williams was born Jan. 22, 1949, in La Junta to Thomas and Margaret Callis Hawkins. She graduated from La Junta High School and the Pueblo School of Cosmetology. Mrs. Williams owned and operated Hair Affair Beauty Salon in Rocky Ford for 35 years and her enjoyment of her work was evident as she made special visits to nursing homes and the homes of those who were unable to come into the shop. She was married to Don Yergert and the couple had two sons, Heath and Cody. She was known as having an unwavering love for her Lord and she was a devoted member of the CommUnity Presbyterian Church in Rocky Ford. On Feb. 11, 1985, she and Mike Williams were married in Raton, NM, and they had a daughter, Jenna Rae Williams. Mrs. Williams' passion was her work as a hair stylist and she was also a talented artist. She enjoyed time working in her yard and caring for her animals. An accomplished horsewoman, she also loved to watch rodeos. Being an avid sports fan, her home was never quiet on a Denver Broncos game day. Her pride and joy was her only grandson, Rhys Yergert. Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Maggie Hawkins. She is survived by husband Mike and daughter Jenna of the family home, sons Donald Heath (Kathy) Yergert of Warsaw, MO and Cody Thomas (Meghan) Yergert and grandson Rhys Yergert of Boston, MA. In addition, other survivors include brothers Jerry (Wynona) Hawkins of Washington, Don (Sandie) Hawkins of Pueblo and Bill (Mary) Hawkins of California, as well as sisters Desi (Gene) Spears of Arizona, Faye (Hiram) Matthews of California, Judy (Richard) Crane of Arkansas and numerous nieces and nephews. Her dedication to Hair Affair gained her lasting friendships with outstanding people in the community. Per her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 10:30 AM in the Community Presbyterian Church in Rocky Ford. There will be no viewing as cremation has been effected. Inurnment will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the Jenna Williams Scholarship fund.
