Obituary

Katherine Lucile Kochman

August 19, 1918 - January 10, 2011

Katherine Lucile Harrison Kochman passed away quietly Monday, January 10th, 2011. She was 92. Lucile was born in Rocky Ford, Colorado, August 13th, 1918, "Katherine Lucile Lynes", the youngest of four children of Frank and Florence Lynes. Lucile grew up playing in her father's grocery in Rocky Ford and later traveled on the depression era migrant labor roadways of California and Arizona with her family, after the store closed. Lucile married Gilmore R. Harrison, also of Rocky Ford, and had son Francis. They moved to Leadville, then Delta where son Steve was born, before settling in Salida. Following Gilmore's death in an airplane crash in 1958, Lucile stayed in Salida and worked at F.W. Woolworth, Cowan Insurance, the Spa Restaurant (now the Country Bounty), and Alexander's Pharmacy (now Lallier Pharmacy). Times may have been lean, but a town like Salida helps its own – it's the right thing to do. In 1972, Lucile married Mr. Edward C. (Eddie) Kochman, a prominent General Contractor in the Salida area. After 27 years of marriage, Lucile lost Eddie to complications of Alzheimer's. She then moved to Houston in 2000, near son Steve and his spouse Cup, to nurse a broken hip. Lucile received wonderful care in the Atria Westchase assisted living apartments in Houston, followed by more of the same at Autumn Grove Cottage in Copperfield (Houston), her last home. In recent years, dementia had been tough on Lucile. Her short-term memory slipped away and slowly even the stories of times gone by faded into the past. In her later years, however, she would still occasionally recall square-dancing with Gilmore, properly made vodka martinis, and the fine craftsmanship of her husband Eddie. The Lucile we knew best will be missed very much. Lucile has left a legacy of memories. The families of her son and daughter-in-law Francis and Nancy Harrison of Las Vegas, her son and daughter-in-law Steve and Cup Harrison of Houston, and step-son and daughter-in-law Eddie and Babbie Kochman of Northglenn, Colorado will greatly miss her. Grave-side services will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery in Rocky Ford, Colorado, Tuesday, January 18th at 2:00 PM with Rev. Olga Hard officiating. A contribution to the Colorado or National Alzheimer's Associations, in memory and honor of Lucile Harrison Kochman, would be most appreciated. www.alzrockymtn.org or www.alz.org Local arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford-Ustick Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to www.fordustick.com.
