LaVern Dean Coffee, 63, of Manzanola, CO, passed away Sunday, August 30th, following a courageous battle with ALS at his residence in the company of his wife. Dean was born in La Junta, CO on February 11, 1952, a son of the late Lola Dell (Paugh) and George La Vern Coffee. Dean graduated from Manzanola High School and Otero Junior College. He was the husband of Janita Coffee, they were married on October 25, 2008 in Manzanola, CO. He grew up by the Catlin Headgate and always talked about the good times and adventures his family had there. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends especially his favorite grandson, Ethan who was called "Little Dean". Dean enjoyed riding motorcycles with his friends and considered them his extended family. He worked in Sales Development at Oliver Manufacturing La Junta, CO, he had also worked for Coca-Cola for 15 years in Rocky Ford, CO. He is survived by his wife Janita of the home; Daughter Laura, wife of Shannon Durr, of Harrisville, MS; Son Nicholas Coffee, of Limon, CO; Daughter Shanna Keyes, of Colorado Springs, CO; Sister Marian, wife of Darrell Nichols, of Rocky Ford, CO; Grandson Ethan Durr, of Harrisville, CO; Canine Companions Sam & Halle Nephew Damon, husband of Celeste Nichols, of Denver, CO; Nephew Lex, husband of Jennifer Nichols, of Rocky Ford, CO. Preceded in death by his parents; first wife: Christine Gabardi; brother: Baby Coffee; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Memorial Service will be at the Valley Community Church, Rocky Ford, CO, at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 3rd, with Cliff Schulz officiating. There will be no viewing as cremation has been effected. Inurnment will be private at a later time. Family request donations to Sangre De Cristo Hospice 124 Cranston Avenue, Fowler, CO 81063 or ALS Association Rocky Mountain Chapter; 10855 St. Ste. 500; Westminster, CO 80021.
