Laverna P. Ervin

February 21, 1924 - November 11, 2015

Laverna Pearl Rains-Ervin, 91, of Ordway, CO, passed away Wednesday, November 11th, while in the company of family members, at Crowley County Nursing Center. Laverna was born in Rocky Ford, CO on February 21, 1924, a daughter of the late Gretta Edna (Shaeffer) and Clyde William Bacher. Laverna graduated from Rocky Ford High School and attended Otero Junior College. She was the widow of Earl Darrell Rains. They were married on July 27, 1942 in Goodland, KS. He preceded her in death on February 14, 1977. She was later married to Herb Ervin and he preceded her in death. She worked as a Secretary at Rocky Ford Federal Credit Union, Rocky Ford, CO. She had also worked for the Rocky Ford Sugar Factory, Travois Trailers and volunteered at the La Junta Air Force Base during WWII. Laverna was a member of Ordway United Methodist Church, Ordway, CO. She was a member of the UMW of Ordway Methodist Church and an Auxiliary member of the VFW in Ordway. She is survived by; Son Daryl, husband of Cindy Rains, of La Junta, CO; Son Michael, husband of Debra Rains, of Cheraw, CO; Son Donald, husband of Judy Bacher, of Albany, OR; Daughter Debbie, wife of Jay Williams, of Rocky Ford, CO; Daughter Ellen, wife of Chris Lakey, of Assonet, MA. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Laverna was preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Earl Rains & Herb Ervin; son: Robert Rains; 2 brothers: Aulden & Roland Bacher; granddaughter-in-law: Tanya Rains. Funeral Services will be at the Valley Community Church, Rocky Ford, CO, at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, November 17th, with Pastor Kurt England and Pastor De Etta Goettel officiating. Friends are invited to call Monday from 2-5 PM at Ford-Ustick Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Rocky Ford, CO.
