Lerry Lee Young

August 12, 1947 - October 21, 2016

Lerry Lee Young, age 69 began his valiant battle with cancer in 2014 passed away on October 21, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents Floyd Ray and Betty Rose (Zlab) Young. Born in Fairbury, Nebraska on Aug. 12, 1947 he was their only child. Lerry was a "jack of all trades" and during his life he worked as a certified mechanic, auto body repairman, certified mig welder, equipment operator with the Santa Fe Railroad, and retired in 2008 as a correctional officer from AVCF. He loved hunting and fishing, wood working, his rose garden and orchard, making wines/beer, the best breads ever, and any other project that proved a challenge to learn. He lived his life embracing all it had to offer with determination, strength, resourcefulness, love, passion, compassion and humor. His life was an inspiration and lesson to all and he will be sadly missed. Leaving behind to cherish his memory his loving wife Mary (Bauer) of 49 years; son J. Brandon (Dana J.) Young of Snohomish, WA and daughters Dana R. (Robert) McElman of Sugar City, CO and Shelli R. (Jedediah) Noble of Taos, NM and grandchildren Shannon, Christian, Connor, Iliena, Rowan, Isis (Lilly), and Jazmin; many in-laws, nephews and nieces and extended family. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at 10:30 AM in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Sugar City, CO. Viewing will be on Tuesday. October 25, 2016 from 5-8 PM in the Ford-Ustick Funeral Home, Rocky Ford, CO. Interment will follow the service at Lakeview Cemetery, Sugar City, CO. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society; 1445 N Union Blvd, #100, Colorado Springs, CO 80909-2843. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford-Ustick Funeral Home.
