Lloyd Ernest Nelson, 84, of Rocky Ford, CO, passed away Friday, December 15th, while in the company of family, at his residence.
Lloyd was born in Rocky Ford, CO on January 26, 1933, a son of the late Lela Belle (Hawthorne) and George Benjamin Nelson.
He was the husband of Devilia Martinez (Martinez) Nelson, they were married on July 3, 1974 in Colorado Springs, CO.
He graduated from Rocky Ford High in 1951 and then from Otero Junior College.
He served in the U.S. Army as a CPL.
He was a Retired Service Station Owner here in Rocky Ford, CO.
He was a member the Rocky Ford ELKS Lodge #1147. He enjoyed playing basketball and played in high school, Jr. College and on local town teams. He like playing cards an avid Bronco fan. Lloyd was a friend to all and was very big hearted and when he decided to close the station he threw away all the past due accounts. But most of all he was a GREAT husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife Devilia of the home;
Daughter Josette E. (Leonard) Burlazzi, of Galloway, NJ;
Granddaughter Whitney Nelson, of La Junta, CO;
Granddaughter Savannah Burlazzi, of Galloway, NJ;
Grandson Brandon Nelson, of La Junta, CO;
Grandson Dominic Burlazzi, of Galloway, NJ;
Daughter in Law Michelle Nelson, of La Junta, CO.
He is also survived by his longtime and best friend who was always called on when he needed help, Richard White.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son: George B. Nelson; 3 sisters: Anna Marie Coffelt, Nora Wheeler and Martha Krone.
Memorial Services will be held 1:00 PM on Wednesday, December 20th at Ford - Ustick Funeral Home in Rocky Ford, CO with Pastor John Dell officiating. Inurnment will be in the Valley View Cemetery in Rocky Ford, CO. Military honors will be by the American Legion Post # 8 of Rocky Ford, CO. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association 1586 S. 21st. St. Colorado Springs, CO 80904.
