Lorenzo Favela (Lettuce) Lechuga, 71, of Rocky Ford, CO, passed away Sunday, April 8th, peacefully surrounded by his family, at his residence. Lorenzo was born in Durango, Mexico on April 27, 1946, a son of the late Pastora Favela (Favela) and Esteban Lechuga. He was the husband of Gloria Ida (Encinias) Mendez. He attended the St. Peters Catholic Church in Rocky Ford, CO. Lorenzo retired from Dean Foods in La Junta, CO. Lorenzo loved being outside doing yard work, fishing or just going out for a ride. He was crafty, enjoyed collecting things, being a jokester, watching "COPS" (even the re-runs) and sweets. But most importantly he loved spending time with his family and friends, he will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. He is survived by his wife Gloria of the home; Daughter Lola (Jose Garcia) Mendez, of Rocky Ford, CO; Daughter Lucy (Jamie) Santos, of Greeley, CO; Son Ralph (Dawn) Mendez, of Rocky Ford, CO; Daughter Diane (Frank Lovato) Mendez, of Rocky Ford, CO; Brother Julio Lechuga, of Durango, Mexico; Sister Aurelia Lechuga, of El Paso, TX; Brother Esteban Lechuga, of Sunland Park, NM; Sister Hortencia Meza, of Glendale, AZ; Nephew Frank Aragon, of Rocky Ford, CO. He is also survived by 13 Grandchildren: Linette (Greg Jones) Padilla, Isaac (Valerie) Padilla, Ashley (Ruben) Armendariz, Francesca (Victor) Hernandez, Thomas Mendez, Derrick Padilla, Asiah Mendez, Stephine (Hector Sigala) Mendez, Breanna (EJ) Sanchez, Justin Santos, Jessie Mendez; 16 Great-Grandchildren: Donavin Baca, Isaac, Jr. & Julissa Padilla, Shanae Ramirez, Joselyn Hernandez, Xavier & Adrian Padilla, Nevaeh, Zachary, Cylas & Briella Sanchez, Mia Padilla, Ernesto & Adrian, Jr. Padilla, Elencio Trujillo, Matthew Mendez, & Jennavecia Armendariz and numerous nieces and nephews. He preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters: Guadalupe Cuevas-Lechuga, Victoria Sanchez & Hermila Lechuga; 1 brother: Juan Lechuga; 2 grandsons: Adrian Padilla & Zachary Padilla . A Rosary Service will be recited at 10:30 AM with A Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 13th both at the St. Peters Catholic Church in Rocky Ford, CO with Fr. Paul Ekeh officiating. A public viewing will be from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Thursday, April 12th at Ford-Ustick Funeral Home in Rocky Ford, CO.
