Loyd Goodwin

April 26, 1926 - February 17, 2016

Loyd Goodwin, age 89 of La Junta went to be with the Lord on February 17, 2016 at the Spanish Peaks Regional Medical Center and Veterans Community Living Center in Walsenburg. He was born April 26, 1926 at Kim, Colorado to Dugas and Mable (Smelker) Goodwin. He worked on the farm in Kim, later moving with the family to La Junta. He then joined the Army and served two years over seas. When he returned from service he worked for Wiswell Creamery and for a time at the Santa Fe Railroad. After marrying Loyce, the love of his life, he went to Fort Worth, Texas to study for the ministry at Bible Baptist Seminary. He served as pastor of several churches for over 40 years. He loved to preach God's Word, the Bible and to tell people about Jesus. He believed that heaven was a prepared place for prepared people, and that Christianity was not a religion but a relationship with God. In addition to his pastoral service he owned and operated several businesses in the Arkansas Valley: Country Edge Estates trailer park in La Junta, Valley Furniture in La Junta, and L & L Exchange in Rocky Ford. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Loyce Goodwin of La Junta, and two sons, Keith (Becky) Goodwin of La Junta and Ken (Cindy) Goodwin of Swink. Five grandchildren Sonya (Ozzie) Hoeme of La Junta, DeLynn (Alan) Lasater of La Junta, Bryan Goodwin of Lubbock, Texas, Aaron (Denise) Goodwin of Swink and Caleb (Jessica) Goodwin of La Junta. Great grandchildren: Tyler and Brennan Ruby of La Junta, Linsey, Cody, and Jolynn Goodwin of Swink, and Rylie and Reagan Goodwin of La Junta. One sister, Lois (Ernest) Love of Pueblo, Colorado.
