Manuelita "Nellie" Valdez

July 10, 1920 - February 17, 2015

Manuelita Eutimia (Nellie) Valdez, 94, of Colorado Springs, CO, passed away Tuesday, February 17th, peacefully, at her residence. Manuelita was born in Mt. Dora, NM on July 10, 1920, a daughter of the late Aralia (Bernal) and Pedro Flores. Nellie attended school in Fowler, CO. She was the widow of Jake Alfonso Valdez, they were married in the late 30's. Nellie worked as a Supervisor at Electro-Mech Colorado Springs, CO and also managed the family restaurant with her parents & bartended at the Picwic. She was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church Rocky Ford, CO. She is survived by; Son Jack Valdez, of Colorado Springs, CO; Daughter Ethel, wife of Vernon Billinger, of Tucson, AZ; Daughter Loretta, widow of Dennis Eagleeye, of Spring, TX; Daughter Lorraine, wife of Dale Pyffer-Pohlman, of Forney, TX; Daughter Veronica, wife of Bob Campbell, of Colorado Springs, CO; Sister Virginia Castro, of El Paso, TX; Brother Richard, husband of Hortensia Flores, of Manzanola, CO; Sister Lillian, wife of Adolph Aragon, of Pueblo, CO; Brother Raymond, husband of Lori Flores, of Manzanola, CO; Sister Delphinia True, of Greeley, CO; Sister Cecelia, wife of Louie Herrera, of Rocky Ford, CO; Brother Jerry, husband of Anamae Flores, of Fountain, CO; Brother John, husband of Barbara Baca, of Pueblo, CO; She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren. Nellie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 3 children: Jake (Googo) Valdez, Patty Ann Martinez & Jake (Alfonso) Valdez, grandson: Lawrence Martinez; granddaughter: Shirley Kay Martinez; brothers: Joe Flores, Sam Flores, Danny Florez, Pete Flores & Mike Valdez. A Rosary Service will be 10:00 AM Tuesday with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 AM both at St. Peters Catholic Church, Rocky Ford, CO on February 24th, with Fr. Paul Ekeh officiating. A Visitation will be on Monday from 2 PM until 5 PM at Ford-Ustick Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Valley View Cemetery in Rocky Ford, CO.
