Margaret Bliss

October 10, 1923 - July 10, 2012

Mrs. Margaret Elinor Bliss, 88, of La Junta passed away on Tuesday, July 10th, 2012 peacefully at Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Center - West, LaJunta, CO. Margaret was born in Detroit, MI on October 10, 1923, the daughter of the late Walter Patrick and Lillian Irene (O'Brien) McGraw. She was the widow of Addison Lymon Bliss. They were married on Dec. 26, 1942 in Detroit, MI. He preceded her in death on May 12, 1985. She attended Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish La Junta, CO. One of five rambunctious daughters of a Detroit MI firefighter, Margaret loved her childhood and had many fond memories and funny stories she enjoyed sharing with her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She married Addison Bliss, the love of her life, in 1942. After the war they moved from Michigan to California where they raised their family. She deeply loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were everything to her. The last 35 years of her life, she spent doing God's work--sharing her faith in Jesus. She almost never missed an opportunity to express her love for Jesus, whether in the grocery store, at the Bingo, or with the oxygen delivery man…with anybody anywhere she would boldly share her faith. She was a good and faithful servant. As her health failed she enjoyed going outside on her scooter, looking at the flowers and saying her rosary, reading her bible and watching old movies. Her fighting spirit showed as she suffered with poor health over the last 10 years of her life. Without complaining, she always found the positive things to enjoy about life, but she was excited for the day she would at last be home with the Lord. Margaret is survived by: Daughter Michelle Taylor of Geary, OK; Son John husband of Linda Bliss of Misssion Viejo, CA; Daughter Jo Anne wife of Ruben Brusuelas of La Junta, CO; Son Alan husband of Ann Bliss of San Jose, CA; Daughter Patricia wife of Ken Stough of Escondido, CA; Sister Patricia Stevenson of Michigan; Sister Lillian Griffith of Michigan; Sister Kathryn Lewan of Michigan. She is also survived by 17 Grandchildren: Margaret (Ricky) Maib, Andrea Boston, John Taylor, Jo Anne Taylor, Donna Taylor, Adam Bliss, Erin (Voita) Safranek, Tyler (Carrie) Bliss, Richard (Andrea) Brusuelas, Cheryl (Brett) McIntosh, Daniel (Wendy) Brusuelas, Candace (Graig) Crawford, Brad (Cassie) Brusuelas, Sean Bliss, Jennifer (Ryan) McVay, Shane (Patricia) Stough, Justin (Lindsay) Stough; Great-Grandchildren: 45; Great-Great-Grandchildren: 3 She was preceded in by her parents; husband: Addison; sister: Rosemary Foley A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish, La Junta, CO, at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 13th, with Fr. Alphonsus Ihuoma officiating. There will be no local viewing. Interment will be in the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Orange, CA. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford-Ustick Funeral Home.
