Margaret Sandra Roybal, affectionately known as Margie, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026, in Pueblo, Colorado. Born in Rocky Ford, Colorado on July 6, 1939, she lived a life characterized by her fierce spirit, unwavering opinions, and dedication to activism.
Margie was a proud graduate of the University of Colorado, Boulder, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education. Her educational journey underscored her passion for learning and her commitment to the future generation. With a feisty personality that endeared her to many, Margie made it her mission to voice her beliefs and advocate for what she felt was right.
Margie's family was central to her life. She is survived by her sisters, Lorene Trujillo and Charlene Lovato. She leaves behind a loving legacy with her daughter, Valerie Valdez, and her grandson, Alex Martinez, as well as her granddaughters, Lauren (Jeremy) McDonald, Caitlyn Valdez, and Raegan (Miles) Iovinella. The joy of her great-grandkids, Jamysun, Landen, Loegan, Jacyann, Jilyonn McDonald, Xander Martinez, Paxtyn, Cohen, Prestyn, and Jensen Chambers, and Tobias and Evie Iovinella brought her immeasurable happiness in her later years.
Margie also mourned the loss of several family members who preceded her in death. She deeply missed her late son, Gilbert Randal Valdez. Her mother, Eloisa Lopez Roybal, also holds a cherished place in the hearts of her family members.She was preceded by her brother Ramon Roybal, her sister Eloyina Gonzales, her brothers Julian and Henry Roybal, and great granddaughter Joeylin McDonald.
As those who loved her grapple with their broken hearts and the deep void her passing has created, they reflect on the rich legacy of love, strength, and determination that Margie imparted throughout her life. She will be missed deeply.
