Marie Hutsell

August 28, 1947 - November 27, 2015

Marie Kathleen Hutsell was born August 28, 1947 to James and Ethel Hutsell in Los Angeles, California. She attended Catholic and public schools. After graduating from secondary school, she obtained an Associate of Arts degree with qualifications in office management. Obtaining a position as secretary with the administrative offices of Los Angeles County public schools, she served a twenty-year career in that post. Having been away from the Catholic Church for a brief period as a young adult, Marie returned to the practice of her faith in her twenties, committed to maintaining her relationship with the Lord and living her faith as a serious, conservative Catholic. In 1993, Marie moved to Lakewood, Colorado and obtained an administrative assistant position with the Catholic Charities Family Center. After working there for ten years, she left when the Family Center consolidated with the other offices of Catholic Charities and underwent a complete staff reorganization. Having met her friend Catriona M. MacKirnan while working at Catholic Charities, Marie accepted Catriona's request to act as her sponsor, together with Catriona's friend Keith Parker, at Catriona's reception into the Catholic Church in 1997 . In 2003, Marie vacated her apartment and moved in with Catriona, at that time living in a house in Arvada, Colorado with her parents. When Catriona and her mother sold their house and moved to Rocky Ford, Colorado in February 2007, Marie decided to take early retirement so she could move with them and assist with the care of Catriona's elderly mother. After moving to Rocky Ford, Marie was active at St. Peter's Catholic Church, attending Mass weekly and serving as a lector. She is survived by her brother James H. Hutsell of Rancho Cucamonga, California, and several nieces, great-nieces, and great-nephews. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 1209 Swink, Rocky Ford, Colorado on Wednesday, December 9th, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Paul Ekeh, pastor of St. Peter's, officiating. There will be no viewing, as cremation has been effected Arrangements have been entrusted to Ford-Ustick Funeral Home.
