Rocky Ford, CO Mr. Melvin Sylvester O'Dea, 85, of Sugar City died Wednesday, September 24th, 2008 surrounded by his wife and daughters at his residence. Melvin was born in Grindstone, SD on March 4, 1923, the son of the late Thomas Austin and Anna Theresa Marie (Theel) O'Dea. He was the husband of Grace Arlene (Omdahl) O'Dea. They were married on February 2, 1947 in Cottonwood, SD. She survives of the home. He was a Rancher. Past Sherriff of Crowley County, owned his own construction company, Crowley County Commissioner and past Mayor of Sugar City. He served in the U.S. Army as a Sgt in WW II. He is survived by his wife, Grace of the home; Daughter Donna O'Dea-Moore wife of Frank of Centennial, CO; Daughter Dianne wife of Gary Visconti of Lake Havasu City, Az; Daughter Roxie wife of Steve Smith of Ordway, Co.; Daughter Rita O'Dea wife of Danny Pitcher of Colorado Springs, Co.; Daughter Randi O'Dea - Knutson wife of Phillip of Pueblo, Co.; Daughter Dixie Schweers wife of Frances "Dude" Mathis of Penrose, Co.; Brothers: Raymond and his wife Esther & Francis and his wife Karen O'Dea Sisters: Delores Hersher, Eva Trimble, Mary and her husband Kenneth Hanson, Rosie and her husband Wesley Richmond & Shirley and her husband Bob Baye He is also survived by 11 Grandchildren; Jody Visconti-Clow (Steve), Rory Carr, Camron Carr (Maggie), Dawn Back (Dale), Taryn Rottman (Jason), Jason Visconti, Justin Smith (Brenda), Bren Cline, Chad Smith, John Smith (Tabitha), Dakota Schweers (Sarah Main) and numerous Great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 grandsons: Craig Allen Visconti & Cody Jo Carr; brothers: Thomas, Vincent and Lawrence A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Peter's Catholic Church, Ordway, CO, at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 27th, with Fr. Mario Murillo officiating. Friends are invited to call on Friday from 4-6 PM. at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Ordway. Rosary Service will be recited at 5:00 PM Friday at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Interment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Sugar City, CO. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Arkansas Valley Hospice 118 W. 4th La Junta, CO 81050. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford-Ustick Funeral Home.
