Meroe Aschermann Sims, formerly of Rocky Ford, who died on July 16 in Greenfield, Indiana. Mrs. Sims was born on July 8, 1915 in Kingfisher, Oklahoma to Frederick and Zarelda Mallon. Her family moved to Grand Island, Nebraska in the early 1920s where Mrs. Sims completed elementary and secondary school. After graduation from the University of Denver in 1936, she taught elementary school at Newdale School east of Rocky Ford and at Limon, Colorado. In December 1937 Mrs. Sims married Harry Aschermann, Jr. of Rocky Ford. She resumed her teaching career in 1952 at the Washington and Liberty elementary schools in Rocky Ford until 1981. After retiring she pursued several hobbies as well as being an active member of the First United Methodist Church and several civic and charitable organizations. Mr. Aschermann died in 1989. In 1996 she married Dudley Sims who died in January 2006. She then moved to an assisted living facility and then a nursing home in Greenfield, Indiana. Mrs. Sims is survived by three children: Nancy Allen of Birmingham, Alabama; Lance (Connie) Aschermann of New Palestine, Indiana; and Robert Aschermann of Colorado Springs; two stepdaughters: Jane Milenski of Rocky Ford and Linda Fielder of Palm Desert, California; two sisters: Genevieve Libby of Winter Park, Florida and Barbara Conklin of Mitchellville, Maryland; two grandchildren: Debra Copp and Carol Aschermann of Indianapolis, Indiana; and two great grandchildren. Two brothers, Fred and George Mallon, and one sister, Celia Blair, preceded her in death. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church, 301 W. Washington Avenue, Rocky Ford 81067. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 21, at 10:00 a.m. at the Rocky Ford United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Valley View-Hillcrest Cemetery in Rocky Ford, Colorado. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Rocky Ford.
