Mr. Peter Donald Markus, 79, of Sugar City died on Sunday, June 27th, 2010 suddenly at his residence. Donnie was born in Sugar City, CO on January 31, 1931, the son of the late Albert and Mollie (Rein) Markus. He was born on Iowa street in Sugar City and lived almost all of his life on Iowa street. He graduated from Sugar City High School. He was the husband of Clara Marie (Glenn) Markus. They were married on October 9, 1955 in Ordway, CO. She survives. He served in the U.S. Army as a SFC in the Korean War. He retired as a Production Controller at the Department of Defense for the Pueblo Army Depot in Pueblo, CO. He retired in 1989 after 34 years of service. He had also worked at the National Sugar Factory during the campaign and the Colorado Supply Division CF&I in Pueblo, CO. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in Sugar City, CO 81076. He was an Elder and Secretary of the church for 52 years. He was a member of the VFW, past member of the Germans from Russia and was volunteer fireman for Sugar City for over 50 years and was on the city council of Sugar City for 30 years. Donnie was an avid photographer and will be rememberd for all the memories he created from his photos and presented to those he photographed. He is survived by his wife, Clara of the home; Daughter Marlene wife of Tim Brotemarkle of Greeley, CO; Son Kenneth Markus and girlfriend PJ Thornton of Colorado Springs, CO; Sister Lucile Nichols of Sugar City, CO; Granddaughter Kelsie Marie Brotemarkle of Greeley, CO; Grandson Bryan husband of Jamie Brotemarkle of Mesa, AZ; Grandson Darek Brotemarkle of Greeley, CO; Grandson Tate Brotemarkle of Greeley, CO; Great-Granddaughter Jalynn Brotemarkle of Mesa, AZ; Great-Grandson Justin Brotemarkle of Mesa, AZ; Great-Grandson Jacob Brotemarkle of Mesa, AZ; Great-Grandson Bryan Brotemarkle, Jr. of Mesa, AZ; Several Nieces and Nephews He is also survived by Many cousins and friends He was preceded in death by a brother: Robert Edward Markus. Funeral Services will be at Grace Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, Sugar City, CO, at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 1st, with Pastor Rick Miller officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5-8 PM at Ford-Ustick Funeral Home, Rocky Ford. Interment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Sugar City, CO. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church Missouris Synod, 403 Iowa Sugar City, CO 81076. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ford-Ustick Funeral Home.
