Salvador Martinez

July 30, 1927 - March 29, 2014

Salvador Martinez, 86, of Rocky Ford, CO, passed away Saturday, March 29th, while in the company of family members, at Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Center - West in La Junta.

Salvador was born in Walsenburg, CO on July 30, 1927, a son of the late Vibianita and Benjamin  Martinez.

He was the widower of Cordelia Mary (Martinez) Martinez. On Sept. 7,1948, they were married at Raton, NM.

Salvador retired as a custom stacker for himself and also served many campaigns at the American Crystal Sugar Factory and also worked for Truman Lusk.

He was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Rocky Ford, CO.

He is survived by; Son Augie, husband of  Linda Martinez, of Littleton, CO; Daughter Jo Ann, wife of  Roberto Baca, of La Junta, CO; Daughter Inez, wife of  Jack Pequete, of Rocky Ford, CO; Daughter Marlene, wife of  Felix Wenzel, of Rocky Ford, CO; Son Ray, husband of  Rita Martinez, of La Junta, CO; Son Ralph, husband of  Alice Martinez, of Laferia, TX; Sister Devilia, wife of  Lloyd Nelson, of Rocky Ford, CO; He is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Phillip Navarro, Dawnyel Gutknecht, Yvonne Torrez, Vanessa Tyler, Anthony Martinez, Roberto Baca, Jr., Melissa Oquist, Carissa Bickel, Serina Martinez, Katrina Martinez, Rachel Martinez, Ashley Martinez; 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; 6 sisters and 7  brothers; 1 great-granddaughter: Zeria Jaramillo

A Rosary service will be recited on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at 10:30 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at St. Peters Catholic Church, Rocky Ford, CO, at 11:00 AM with Fr. Paul Ekeh officiating. A Visitation will be on Tuesday from 3-5 PM at Ford-Ustick Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Valley View Cemetery in Rocky Ford, CO.
