Obituary

Samuel "Ruben" Brusuelas, 82, of Rocky Ford passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Ruben was born on November 6, 1942, in El Paso, Texas, to Joe and Juanita Brusuelas. As the eldest son of twelve children, he was a dedicated brother to his eight sisters and three brothers. He was raised in Southern California, where he discovered a passion for working on hot rods and boats alongside his brothers - a hobby that would go on to shape both his personal and professional life. It was also in California where he met the love of his life, Jo Anne Bliss. The two were married on February 29, 1964 - a leap year wedding that marked the beginning of a 61 year joyful and devoted partnership.

As a successful businessman and entrepreneur, Ruben spent his early years in California managing a wholesale warehouse for L.B. Ball, where he was known for his leadership and tireless work ethic. In 1977, Ruben and Jo Anne moved to Rocky Ford, where they planted deep roots in the community. Ruben initially owned Chief Amusement for seven years before opening Ruben's Body Shop in 1984, which he proudly owned and operated for over 35 years. Ruben treated every customer like family, often offering a "family discount" simply because he was a generous man and understood the value of his customers.

Together, Ruben and Jo Anne not only built a successful business, but also a large and loving family. Ruben was a devoted father to his five children: Richard (Andrea) Brusuelas of Austin, TX, Cheryl (Brett) McIntosh of South Fork, Daniel (Wendy) Brusuelas of Colorado Springs, Candace (Graig) Crawford of Thornton, and Bradley (Cassie) Brusuelas of Alliance, NE. He was also a proud Papa to18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, and Uncle Ruben to many nieces and nephews, each of whom brought him great joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Juanita Brusuelas; his siblings, Betty, Ted, Kathy, and Juanita; and children Samuel and Christopher.

Ruben will be remembered for his deep devotion to family and faith, generous heart, and open arm hospitality as he hosted many backyard gatherings for all who could attend. The countless stories and cherished memories shared by those who knew him stand as a powerful testament to the impact of a life well lived.
